The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) in Qatar, Doha is the country's regulator responsible for Wireless Regulatory Compliance and Type Approvals of all Radio and Telecommunication equipment prior to their use, import, and production in Qatar. There are few exemptions to the CRA Type Approval which are mentioned on this page below.

CRA Qatar accepts equipment testing already done under globally accredited bodies and allows simplified CRA Type Approval scheme for such devices without the need for any local testing or any required samples. EU technical standards are accepted by CRA Qatar for the purposes of Qatar Type Approval application evaluations.

CRA Type Approval is a mandatory certification process by Qatar’s Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) for all Radio and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment (RTTE) intended for use, import, or sale in Qatar. This process ensures that devices comply with national technical standards related to spectrum use, safety, and electromagnetic compatibility.

Yes, labeling is mandatory for all devices that receive Type Approval from CRA Qatar. Below are the specific labeling requirements:

• The label must have black print on a white background.
• The minimum height of any character on the label must be 2mm.
• The letter “Q” in “ictQATAR” should be at least 3mm in height.
• Where “nnnnnn” appears, substitute it with the registration number allocated by ictQATAR for the specific equipment.
• Where “xxxxxxxxx” appears, substitute it with the dealer registration number of the Authorized Importer who applied for the approval.
• When the label is applied to the packaging of the equipment, the minimum dimensions of the label must be doubled.

7. Does CRA Qatar accept international test reports?
Yes, CRA accepts test reports from globally accredited labs (e.g., those following CE or FCC standards).

8. What technical standards are accepted by CRA Qatar?
CRA accepts EU standards, including those based on CE marking, for evaluating compliance.

9. Is 3G technology allowed in Qatar after the CRA’s new regulations?
No, 3G technology will no longer be allowed in Qatar after the CRA’s decision to phase it out by 2025. All devices must be compatible with 4G or 5G technologies to comply with the new regulations.
