The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) of Egypt is responsible for ensuring that all telecommunication and radio equipment comply with national standards before their import, sale, and use within the country.

NTRA has established three distinct equipment approval schemes to streamline the process based on product origin, type, and risk assessment:

1. Light Type Approval Scheme: This is the simplest of the three schemes, used for products that pose minimal regulatory risk. It accepts international certifications, such as ISO certificates from globally recognized bodies (e.g., EU or US) in the EMC testing space or the following:

   1. Manufacturing Plant is located in EU countries, UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Singapore or (Taiwan/ PRC).

                              OR

1. Manufacturer branch located anywhere in world except India and China and that Branch is with ISO certification in the product R&D and manufacturing scope

   1. 1. ISO certificate issued by certification body location in EU countries, UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Singapore or (Taiwan/ PRC).​

   2. Intermediate Type Approval Scheme:  For the light type approval scheme criteria mentioned above, if the manufacturing plant is located anywhere else in the world except India and China, then intermedia Type approval scheme kicks-in with some additional documentation and due diligence requirements.

   3. Tight Type Approval Scheme:  Tight type approval scheme is applicable for products where the criteria given above in Light Type approval scheme is not met and the manufacturing plant location is in either China or India. This scheme has some additional requirements related to test reports issuance and accrediation.
