Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) administers the Nepal - NTA Type Approval Process which is a mandatory requirement for Radio and Telecommunication Equipment prior to their import to Nepal (with exemptions as mentioned on this page below) ensuring countrywide wireless regulatory compliance.

NTA Type Approval consists of two phases:
1- Provisional NTA Type Approval - Valid for 6 months
2- Periodic Permanent NTA Type Approval - Valid for 5 Years

It is to be noted that NTA facilitates the Periodic permanent NTA Type Approval requests only if the approved devices are actually imported and sold during the six month provisional approval phase.

1. What is NTA Type Approval?

NTA Type Approval is a mandatory certification process regulated by the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA). It ensures that radio and telecommunication equipment complies with national technical and safety standards prior to import, sale, or use in Nepal.

2. Which equipment requires NTA Type Approval?
​
All radio and telecommunication equipment intended for importation and use in Nepal must undergo NTA Type Approval, unless specifically exempted by NTA regulations. All radio telecommunication devices with an operating distance of less than 15 meters are exempt from NTA Type Approval.

3. What are the phases of NTA Type Approval?

The process consists of two phases:

4. What are the renewal conditions for NTA Type Approval?

A 5-year renewal certificate is granted only if the units are imported or sold within 6 months of the provisional certificate's issuance. If this condition is not met, a 6-month renewal will be provided instead.

No. Product samples are not required for NTA Type Approval.

6. Is in-country testing required for NTA Type Approval?
​
No. NTA accepts international test reports. In-country testing is not applicable.

8. What are the labeling requirements for Nepal NTA?
​
For identification of the equipment, equipment shall bear a clear, permanent and easily visible type plate or other equivalent contiguous type labeling with the following information:

9. What is the typical lead time NTA Type Approval application?
​
The standard lead time to obtain NTA Type Approval is approximately 4-6 weeks

10. What happens if the NTA Type Approved equipment is modified?
​
If there is any modification to the manufacturing brand name, product name, model number, functions, or other information submitted during the original application, the existing NTA Type Approval becomes invalid. In such cases, a new Type Approval must be obtained from NTA before the equipment can be imported, sold, or used in Nepal.
