Indonesia Updates Radio Frequency Spectrum Regulations for RLAN Devices
Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (KOMDIGI) has introduced new regulations to expand frequency bands and set technical standards for Radio Local Area Network (RLAN) devices, enhancing wireless connectivity across the country. Indonesia's updated wireless regulations enhance connectivity and align with global standards. Manufacturers must comply by mid-2025 to ensure market access and certification approval.
Key Highlights:
Effective Date and Transition Period
The regulation, Ministerial Decree No. 12 of 2025, took effect on January 15, 2025.
The previous regulation (SDPPI No. 2 of 2019) remains valid for testing devices in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands until mid-2025, allowing manufacturers time to comply with the updated standards.
Expanded Frequency Bands
Existing Bands:
2400–2483.5 MHz
5150–5250 MHz
5250–5350 MHz
5725–5825 MHz
New Bands Introduced:
5925–6425 MHz (6 GHz) for Wi-Fi 6E and advanced wireless systems.
57–64 GHz (60 GHz) for high-speed Multi-Gigabit Wireless Networks.
Technical Standards for RLAN Devices
2.4 GHz/5 GHz Bands:
Power limits range from 23 dBm (indoor use) to 36 dBm (backhaul applications).
6 GHz Band:
Low Power Indoor (LPI): Maximum power of 23 dBm, restricted to indoor use.
Very Low Power (VLP): Maximum power of 14 dBm, usable indoors and outdoor use.
60 GHz Band:
Supports high-speed data transmission with power limits up to 40 dBm and bandwidths up to 2.16 GHz.
