Kenya Introduces New Requirements for Importing ICT Products
The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has introduced five key requirements for importing ICT products, aiming to enhance trade efficiency and regulatory compliance through the National Electronic Single Window System.
Under the new rules, importers must hold a valid license related to the ICT products they plan to sell in Kenya. Additionally, they must attach a copy of the compliance certificate linked to their license when applying for an import permit.
To streamline inspections and customs clearance, invoices must include the model number and quantity of ICT products to verify Type Approval status. For internet-connected devices, importers must provide technical specifications proving compliance with IPv6 standards, in line with CA’s IPv6 Migration Strategy.
Importers are encouraged to check the CA website for a list of type-approved equipment and attach a screenshot of the listed model when submitting their applications.
In cases where non-type approved products are imported for non-commercial use, additional details may be required on a case-by-case basis.
These measures are designed to improve efficiency, ensure regulatory compliance, and strengthen Kenya’s ICT market position while safeguarding consumer interests and maintaining high product standards.
