PTA Releases Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) Framework 2024
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) after extensive consultation with the relevant stakeholders has officially published the Framework for Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) 2024.
The framework reserves specific unlicensed frequency bands, such as 2.4 Gigahertz (GHz), 5 GHz, and 6 GHz, for WLAN use. PTA declared that in May 2024, the 6 GHz frequency band would be available for unlicensed RLAN operation in Pakistan. The WLAN framework's adoption demonstrates PTA's dedication to creating a strong regulatory framework that permits the efficient and safe use of unlicensed spectrum.
S. No | Frequency Band | Technical Specifications |
1. | 2.40-2.50 GHz | ≤ 30 dBm EIRP |
2. | 2 5.725-5.875 GHz | ≤ 30 dBm EIRP |
3. | 5.925- 6.425 GHz | · 23 dBm Maximum mean EIRP · Indoor use Only · Power Spectral Density of WLAN operating under this provision shall not exceed 10 dBm/ MHz. |
|
| · 14 dBm Maximum mean EIRP · Outdoor use · Power Spectral Density of WLAN operating under this provision shall: i. not exceed 1 dBm/ MHz. ii. not exceed 10 dBm/ MHz for narrowband operations on BWs below 20 MHz |
This framework is designed to assist both imports and local makers of WLAN equipment by establishing clear technical requirements and making it easier to import and distribute compliant devices in Pakistan. Consumers can expect a better wireless experience, including improved coverage and connectivity in homes, offices, and public spaces, which will improve digital access and encourage the adoption of modern technologies.
To guarantee that technical and operational standards are met, the framework provides extensive regulatory guidelines for WLAN operations.
Complete framework can be seen here.
