Qatar Opens New Space Radio Monitoring Center to Boost Satellite Communication - October 10, 2024

Qatar has officially opened the Space Radio Monitoring Center (SRMC), an important step to improve satellite communications. The center was inaugurated by His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, along with His Excellency Mr. Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai, Minister of Communications and Information Technology.

The launch ceremony was attended by ministers from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and officials from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The SRMC shows Qatar’s commitment to keeping satellite signals clear and enhancing its communication infrastructure.

Key Highlights:

Global Leader: Qatar is now one of only 16 countries in the world to have a dedicated space radio monitoring center, boosting its position in global satellite communication.

Cutting-Edge Technology: The center is the first in the world to use a Mobile Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) Geolocation tool, which helps track mobile VSAT terminals and prevents signal interference.

Comprehensive Monitoring: The SRMC can monitor both ground and space signals, which is essential for smooth communication across different areas.

Engineer Ahmad Abdulla AlMuslemani, President of the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), emphasized the center’s importance in ensuring secure and effective satellite communications, supporting Qatar National Vision 2030, and promoting innovation and economic growth.

Located in the Markhiyat Al Darb area, the SRMC covers 20,000 square meters and includes advanced facilities like an antenna farm and a drone monitoring system, which help quickly identify and fix any signal problems.

This new center highlights Qatar’s commitment to advancing technology and improving its satellite communication systems.
