Saudi Arabia Introduces GCC National Origin Certificate Requirement for Imports
Effective July 6, 2021, all products manufactured or partially manufactured in GCC countries must now include a GCC National Origin Certificate for customs clearance in Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) has introduced a new requirement impacting goods manufactured or semi-manufactured in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries which include Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. As of July 6, 2021, these products must be accompanied by a GCC National Origin Certificate during the Shipment Certificate stage to complete customs clearance in Saudi Arabia. SASO-approved Certification Bodies have been instructed to ensure this certificate is collected as part of the certification process.
GCC National Origin Certificate: Key to Customs Clearance
The GCC National Origin Certificate verifies that products being shipped to Saudi Arabia are of GCC origin, aligning with the Kingdom’s trade and regulatory standards. This documentation is now mandatory for goods moving through Saudi customs and is an essential part of the import process for manufacturers and exporters within the GCC.
For businesses exporting products from GCC countries, the new requirement means ensuring all necessary documentation is complete prior to shipment, to avoid delays or compliance issues at Saudi entry points.
